Custom Facebook Design after Timeline!

In the previous article I covered how a custom facebook design is created and it was a little technical, in this article I will try to make it simpler and cover the new design related features since timeline has hit facebook pages. I will not go into as much detail and I will try to keep it simple.

Facebook Timeline now on Pages

Yes, you read that right, timeline is now available for pages (optional at the time of writing). By the end of the month this will be mandatory and everyone will have to accept it. I know there are a lot of mixed reviews on timeline. I personally like it but it certainly needs a lot of improvements in how it functions. It's a step in the right direction but some people just hate change. Anyways this is happening and their is no escaping it so best get used to the idea now if you are wanting to stay on Facebook.

The good news...

There is some good news and to keep this very simple I will not go into detail. Since timeline has hit pages things have changed, no longer do we have a very minimal layout on our facebook pages. We can now have around 760 - 800 pixels in width!

Still confusing? Let me simplify it for you. The minimal layout a web design usually designs for is 800 pixels on a full website! You are now allowed this in your Facebook pages! This basically means you are getting a website ON YOUR FACEBOOK!

You might say what is the point of a website then? - well some people may not need both but I would personally have a website and a Facebook. I would use the Facebook as an extension of my website and provide special offers to my fans. Besides having a website gives you a professional feel and they are next to nothing to actually run these days. The only costly part is the initial design and development of the website. Though even that is very affordable these days, especially from Skyweb Studios, hint hint, nudge nudge ahem anyways to wrap this article up I think a visual image is in order.

Please note, both images are not to scale and have being scaled down to fit into this article and made as an example only. Hopefully you can still see the difference in widths and how much better the custom design looks AFTER timeline.

I really like the new pages thanks to the massive width you now get and the fact that there is no content wrapped around my design. I am talking about the content on the left and right of the old method. That is now gone, giving you a nice clean look and a true CUSTOM design making your page actually feel like YOUR PAGE.
